CLINICIAN TESTIMONIAL

Describe the photo or the page it links to

Do you like clinicians who like to hear themselves talk?

Do you want canned clinics repeating the same exercises year after year?

If instead you want:

1) Clinics limited to ten riders

2) Giving you the most bang for your buck

2) Practicing exercises bringing you to another level of riding

3) No matter your riding discipline or breed preference

4) By a clinician who can ride as well as teach

5) With respectful, fair, honest guidance no matter your riding level

...then come ride a Jeff Wilson clinic! Warning: if you audit, you'll wish you were riding!

CowboyDressage Testimonial

Black Willow Augustine

I am often asked by people,"What do you do with your horse?" Now I reply Cowboy Dressage. "What is that?" they ask. Simply it is a language that transcends all disciplines to join horse and rider. My horse and I are one. I have a new found confidence in myself and my horse. I have the knowledge and skill to enjoy a freedom never felt before. My horse has balanced movement, feels and listens to my every command. He responds with willingness and has respect for other horses and their riders. Cowboy Dressage has changed my life. My journey has just begun.

Thank you Jeff Wilson for allowing me to soar.

A long over due shout out to Jeff Wilson and his Cowboy Dressage program.  I took my 6 year old quarter horse to him for evaluation and training.  "Jesse" is a stronger and more effective mover, and I have gained confidence in riding him.  Thank you Jeff for your patience with me and generosity with your time.  It's refreshing to have a professional listen to your concerns and address those needs rather than follow their own agenda.  Jeff's program has opened the door to an enhanced way of riding and interaction with my horse.  It has also given me a mentor and new friend, and I am grateful for that.

Thank you Jeff!

Welcome to Black Willow Morgans

Who we are

Hello, my name is Jeff Wilson and I train, breed and raise horses with my family in the beautiful Catskill mountains of New York.

I think my fascination with the horse began with their aesthetic beauty. I see the exterior of the horse as art. The Morgan was the breed that captured me over thirty years ago. Yes, I am drawn to traits like upheadedness and willing to please, but the Morgan has always captured me with its mind and heartits interior. I enjoy seeing the evidence of the excellence of the Morgan in my horses, that heart that carried soldiers to battle in the Civil War and Pony Express riders galloping across the plain. I appreciate what the Morgan is and the complexity of tasks that have been accomplished through the years and in my life. I am a horseman, the horse is my passion, and I am excited to show them to you.

Jeff WilsonBreeder and Horseman

Almost thirty-five years ago, I entered the horse world with a fresh mind and a future full of opportunity. I saw the cream of the crop, and the heartless plugs; I learned from each one. Today, I am breeding horses that I want to own as a horseman, and a trainer. Horses that are sensitive and highly tuned, with presence and poise, yet gentle enough to accept whatever they're doing with ease. As a trainer, I am here to help and be a resource for anyone who desires to learn.

Evidence Based Breeding

At Black Willow Morgans, we are breeding horses that horse people want to own. It is our passion and our life's work. We have worked very hard to find and build upon two attributes that are very unique together. Unique because they are two components you don't find together in much concentration in the same horse; components that almost always extinguish the other out. when you hear the word "gentle" you automatically think of a dull horse, or maybe a kid's horse, or a beginner horse.

I believe that gentle can be a DNA component, a horse that's natural inclination is never to bite or kick, but accept whatever happens to it, good or bad.

The direct opposite is the sensitive horse. A horse that detects and analyzes everything around it and responds in a micro-second. These horses can be the opposite of gentle, and be flighty, touchy, and hard to handle.

Here at Black Willow Morgans we have the blend of the two. An athlete that is tuned into the slightest cue from the rider...with the strength and gusto to hit the horizon or pull the barn down, yet compliant enough to easily wait for the moment you choose.

We think that makes for a perfect companion horse. That is why we say we are breeding horses that horse people want to own.

The Catskill Line

Our roots are in the Catskill Mountains. It is an amazing place to have your foundation. The Morgans of the Catskills are a unique line of horse started fifty years ago. a bloodline that had a reputation for being owned for life by their owners, treasures that weren't given up easily. It was always said of the Catskill line that you could pick them out in a crowd immediately.  Beautiful faces, large expressive eyes, sterling dispositions and very easily trainable demeanors. Who would want a foundation of anything else?

America's Baroque Horsethe Morgan

The North American Baroque Horse Association describes the Baroque horse: "The Baroque horse should emanate the look of power, elegance, prowess and strength. he should be the gentlest of creatures with all. Highly trainable for any task put forth. The Baroque's carriage is noble and upright. He is a very free moving horse." I believe the Morgan horse is America's Baroque breed and we should stand up proudly and say that. I have seen these attributes in the Morgan and I am proud of how we are able to demonstrate that in our very own bloodline.

What we are doing today

It is not enough for me to simply breed and train horses. I want to showcase the Morgan breed and demonstrate who they are and what they can do. By dramatically capturing the attention of the viewer and showing them why they should care I work toward that goal. I perform with my two Morgan stallions, Black Willow Orion and Del-View Catskill Valiant. I show what I see: a picture of athleticism, versatility, strength, beauty, and exceptional intelligence. promoting the Morgan to me is painting that picture. I want people to see the Morgans are champions in heart, in mind, and in athletic beauty. I want them to come away as proud of America's first breed as I am; and to discover the art and the artfulness that is the Morgan.
